The Aperfield Montessori Diploma in Early Childhood Education is a Level 5 qualification, approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).

The Diploma is designed as an extension for those already holding an Early Childhood Education qualification. Teachers can improve their knowledge and skills in the teaching of infants, toddlers, and young children in the Montessori Method of education.

The course is suitable for parents, carers, psychologists, therapists, nurses and anyone who wants to be a teacher.

The aim is to develop a high level of professional competence in teachers of the Montessori Method (to children aged 2 1/2 to 6 years old), in schools in England and New Zealand. Since August 2003, the programme has complied with requirements for the New Zealand Register of Quality Assured Qualifications – KiwiQuals Te Ahurutanga.

Please Note: We are currently only taking RE-enrolments for the current Montessori Diploma. We will advise as soon as possible in early 2018, when enrolments can be taken for our new Diploma: the New Zealand Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 5).

This is because The New Zealand Qualifications Authority requires all Level 5 training providers to change their delivery of qualifications. The new Diploma will be placed onto the NZQA framework on February 1st, 2018.

Existing students (including those who re-enrol) have until December 9th, 2019 to complete the current Diploma; including all Assignments, Practical Workshops, the Ministerial Module, Practical and Oral Assessments.

50% Discount on 2017/2018 Book 2 Course Fees

If two students from the same ECE service re-enrol in Book Two for 2016, they will receive 50% discount on Book 2 Course fees (NB: Set texts are not discounted). Full payment is required on confirmation of enrolment.

Future of the Diploma

We are currently re-writing the Aperfield Montessori Diploma to meet the NZQA new requirements. The trustees are committed to moving from our current course, to the new Level Five qualification: the New Zealand Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 5).

The aim of the new course is to provide a worldwide-recognised standard, and transferable Level Five qualification.

The Trustees’ goal is to write a New Zealand Montessori qualification which ensures Early Childhood teachers have the knowledge and skills to work effectively in any Early Childhood centre, with the added value of knowledge of the Montessori Method.
